Skate 4: The Long-Awaited Arrival Brings Thrilling New Features

After what seemed like a lifetime of rumors and false starts, EA finally confirmed that they are working on an all-new Skate 4 at the June 2020 EA Play event. It will be the first new game in the Skate franchise since Skate 3 in 2010.

Skateboarding games have a cult following, both skaters and non-skaters. Although Skate 3 was mediocrely successful upon its initial release, it experienced a huge resurgence when YouTube giant PewDiePie became obsessed with the game’s physics.

More recently, we have seen the release of a variety of skateboarding games, such as the remasters of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, Skater XL, and Session. With the skateboard’s Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020, it seems like the ideal time for the series to return.

We’ve rounded up all the details, and here’s everything we know about Skate 4 so far.

Skate 4 release date

Skate 4

There has been no official announcement regarding the release date of Skate 4. The developers insist that it will be released when it is ready.

During the initial presentation, it was stated that the game was in a very early stage of development. A page on the developer’s website continues to display various job offers for the Skate development team, suggesting that the game is still a long way from being finished.

During the Q3 2022 earnings presentation, EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated that the game is “launching soon,” and we didn’t hear from him for a while. In late March 2022, seasoned leaker Tom Henderson revealed that the game had been in testing for quite some time, indicating that the reveal might not be far off:

These are pre-alpha images of Skate 4. It matches what I’ve heard from several people about the stage the game is in. They’re trying to get the feel right, which is probably the most important aspect of a Skate game.

It can be seen that the game is still in its early stages, but Grubb claims that the developers are focusing first on the gameplay, arguably the most important aspect of a Skate game. This leak doesn’t necessarily indicate that it’s coming out anytime soon, and it’s clear that there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Tom Henderson popped back in late June 2022 to report that he’s expecting a Skate 4 reveal in July 2022, pegging the game for a 2023 release and hopefully showing the first glimpses of polished gameplay, so stay tuned. attentive.

Skate Quiz 4

In addition to the above speculation, EA opened a registration system at the end of June 2022 for players to express their interest in trying the game, which it says is still a long way from being in alpha state.

You can sign up if you’re on PC, as it’s not open for consoles, and potentially get a chance to try the game out a few times during the rest of its development, though there’s no guarantee you’ll be selected. The video announcement above also contains some nice gameplay hints (raw and in-engine).

Skate 4

During the live broadcast of ” The Board Room ” on July 14, 2022, it was announced that the upcoming Skate title will work as a free-to-play MMO.

The team is not treating the game as a sequel, but as a standalone experience that will receive many years of updates, including new content and seasonal releases.

Of course, being a free-to-play title, there will be microtransactions to monetize the game, but luckily, the developers have set some strict rules on how these will be implemented.

During the Livestream, Full Circle promised that there will be no loot boxes, no areas of the map locked behind a paywall, and no game-altering pay-to-win mechanics.

However, Insider Gaming reports that a loot box system has recently been added to playtests. These boxes can only be unlocked with an in-game currency called stars, which are earned by completing challenges. At the very least, these boxes appear to be limited to cosmetic items, such as dashboard stickers, clothing, and furniture.

It’s not yet clear if we’ll have a traditional story mode, but we’ve been able to see some co-op zones where players can build skateparks together, and it looks like a lot of fun.

Skate Trailer 4

Although there is currently no trailer for Skate 4, the developer has offered us some preview videos.

The first video was the announcement at EA Play 2020. This is a short video that basically confirms that Skate 4 already exists without revealing much else.

The next glimpse came a year later. Again, this a quick video with no gameplay footage, but this time with influential members of the skateboarding community like Garrett Ginner and Atiba Jefferson reacting to gameplay. We also have a few images that show us some motion capture action and the general message is ‘be patient, we’re working on it’.

Since then we’ve had a couple of development update videos.” Along with the latest update, the team has posted a test video where we can get a better look at some of the new mechanics in their pre-Alpha state.

Skate Decks 4

Not all platforms have been revealed, but the first thing we knew is that Skate is coming to PC for the first time.

Later, during a live stream hosted on Skate’s YouTube channel, it was revealed that the next Skate game will be coming to as many platforms as possible and will support cross-platform play.

This includes a mobile version of the game, presumably on both Android and iOS, along with the major consoles.

Skate 4 Developer

In January 2021, EA confirmed that it had created a new development team to work on Skate 4 called Full Circle. The new studio is based in Vancouver alongside EA Sports and Respawn Entertainment.

Hello! Yes, we are still working on the next Skate and have officially created a studio to prove it!

Full Circle’s CEO is Daniel McCulloch, formerly CEO of Xbox Live for Microsoft. He stated: “Fans wanted Skate back into existence, and we want them to feel involved in the process, from development to game release and beyond,” and continued: “Our goal is to have fun and create great games through The ones that people want to play with their friends.”
